Short-Term Disability (STD)
If you have a serious non-work-related injury or illness that keeps you from working, how would you pay your bills?
Pregnancy, a scheduled surgery or an unplanned illness or injury could keep you off the job and without income for an extended period of time. Voluntary STD insurance can help provide additional financial protection by providing a benefit while you are disabled.
Note: Any disability which occurs in the first 12 months of coverage which is attributed to a pre-existing condition for which you were treated or diagnosed for the condition or illness in the 12 months prior to the effective date of coverage will not be a covered disability. Changes in elected elimination period option may initiate additional pre-existing limitations.
Short-Term Disability Tip
If you anticipate a leave, contact Human Resources Benefits prior to the start of your leave or as soon as possible after your leave begins to complete the STD claim form.
The Benefits Of Short-Term Disability
Benefits from STD insurance can help pay expenses such as mortgage or rent payments, utility bills and other household expenses (e.g., food, clothing and other necessities). It can also cover medical costs not covered under other plans. This plan does not cover disabilities due to occupational sickness or injury.
60% of your base income to a maximum of $2,500 per week, not to exceed 100% of weekly pay
Benefit begins on the first day following the elimination period; you may choose from one of three elimination period options: 7 days, 14 days or 30 days
Benefit payments could continue for up to 26 weeks
The LTD plan provides a monthly benefit designed to partially replace income lost during periods of total disability greater than six months resulting from a covered injury, sickness or pregnancy.
